Phytophthora cactorum - Leather rot (fruit)

Picture ID: PP-phyto-5
Pathogen: Phytophthora cactorum
Disease: Phytophthora crown rot (Leather rot)
Author:  Copyright D.E. Legard, 2000

Brief Description: The disease is characterized by a sudden wilting of plants in the fruit production field. Brown necrotic streaks develop in the crown. The wilt and crown rot symptoms of this disease are difficult to distinguish from the symptoms produced by Colletotrichum gloeosporioides, so isolation and characterization of the pathogen is important for proper identification.
