Beneficial Insects

There are many species of insects and mites that feed on other insects and mites found in Florida strawberry.  Following are just a few of those.  The activities of these beneficial insects and mites, along with pathogens that disease insects and mites, help to maintain potential pests below damaging levels.  These beneficial organisms should be conserved by reducing and carefully managing the applications of disruptive, broad-spectrum pesticides.  Many of these photographs were taken by M. van de Vrie during his work with the strawberry entomology program at GCREC Dover and Bradenton.
